How we detest their acts and their reasons for committing them
How our hearts burn, to see them punished, to see them even killed
Let the murderer earn what he cost his victim.
But then I chanced this portion of scripture
Numbers 35: 16-25, NKJV
15 These six cities shall be for refuge for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills a person accidentally may flee there.
16 ‘But if he strikes him with an iron implement, so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. 17 And if he strikes him with a stone in the hand, by which one could die, and he does die, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. 18 Or if he strikes him with a wooden hand weapon, by which one could die, and he does die, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death. 20 If he pushes him out of hatred or, while lying in wait, hurls something at him so that he dies,21 or in enmity he strikes him with his hand so that he dies, the one who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. 22 ‘However, if he pushes him suddenly without enmity, or throws anything at him without lying in wait, 23 or uses a stone, by which a man could die, throwing it at him without seeing him, so that he dies, while he was not his enemy or seeking his harm, 24 then the congregation shall judge between the manslayer and the avenger of blood according to these judgments.
I know you will be asking yourself, how does this concern me? I am not a murderer, neither am I a sadist. Well, I came from the same mindset, until the Spirit of God, illuminated the word for me to see by using this scripture:
Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
and then this scripture:
James 3:4-10 NKJV
Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.
And then it clicked!
In our days, we don’t run to a city of refuge, we run to the Mercy seat, to meet Jesus, our refuge. But why is it, that, even we, who are in Christ, still find our lives crashing? He is the One who picked us from the miry clay, and set our feet upon a rock. We are on His shoulders and chest as precious ornaments, just as the breastplate of the High priest. So why do we suffer, why are we the easiest examples of mediocrity? I may not have all the answers to these questions, but I have one answer: We are murderers, killers of our own destinies and destroyers of our own worlds.
We were made to take dominion and be fruitful on this earth. However, we continue to met out DESTRUCTIVE words(instructions) into our lives and into our world.
It is imperative that we speak positive things into our lives, into our families, into our country, into our world.
From the scriptures above, it is clear that murder comes with a mind ready to kill. It is intentional, a will, a desire and not accidental. Whatever that influenced the murderous thought could be so trivial, yet the will to kill is huge. We normally act on our desires and not necessarily what influenced the desire. So I eat cake, not because the presence of the cake forced me to. It is because the presence of the cake influenced my desire, and I acted upon my desire.
In our days we describe our lives and our worlds with so many negative expressions and words and end up destroying our own lives with our words. “My life is a mess!” “I can never make it” “When will I ever get there” “Can anything good come from Ghana?” “Ghana can never go forward”
These words may be influenced by pain, suffering, hardship, economic downturn, etc. But the influence did not make you say those words, it only influenced your desire and you acted upon your desire. So you see, we’re not different from the murderers that are killing others. We are killing destinies, future, goals yet to be fulfilled, we are killing our own selves. Murderers!! We are throwing stones at, hurling things at, pushing , and hitting our success with a whole lot of negativity. Our actions are intentional, and not accidental, born out of the frustrations of life, or even our mindset. With every single negative, we slowly kill our dreams, aspirations, we kill the great future ahead of us.
Death and life lie in our tongue. Choose life. Intentionally speak positive things into your life, regardless of the things happening around you. We were made to rule and take dominion of this earth. The first point of contact is our thoughts and words. Instruct the earth with the right words, speak positively into your life, your country, your family, your workplace, everything concerning you. And you will see that life will spring up from places you never imagined.
Refuse to be a murderer! Give life, because our Lord is the way, the truth and the life.
